The family of a motorcyclist, who died recently after falling off a bike near a roadside trench, demanded action against the contractor for negligence.
Prakash, 21, a dancer, had gone to dance practice on October 19 evening. While returning late at night, he reportedly failed to notice soil dumped on the road by personnel repairing the sewage line in Shanti Nagar near Kavoor. He fell off died of injuries at a private hospital.
During the monthly Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes grievance redressal meeting at the Police Commissioner’s office here, Prakash’s mother Jyothi said the contractor, who carried out the repair work, did not bother to remove the soil dumped on the road even after the accident. “The contractor needs to be blacklisted as the soil still remains on the road. I do not want other motorists to suffer the fate like my son,” she said.
Ms. Jyothi said the contractor failed to place any caution signs to indicate the trench or the soil. Prakash’s elder brother Satish said Mayor Kavitha Sanil has failed to take any action despite being aware of the gravity of the situation.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic) Uma Prashant said letter will be written to Mangaluru City Corporation to remove the mud dumped on the road and repair it.
Refuting allegations by an activist that the police were closing cases of harassment of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes by filing ‘B’ report, Ms. Prashant said the B reports are filed only after verification by senior police officers. The police inspectors do not filed B reports by themselves, she said.
