Document verification process went on peacefully amid a few cases of delay, on the first day at the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) Helpline Centre at the Karnataka Polytechnic premises here on Friday.

As many as 147 students from the city and other parts of the district — including Udupi — appeared on the first day where students who secured the top 700 ranks were assisted. The process was held in four separate sessions since 9 a.m. More number of students are expected on Saturday and Sunday when document verification of those ranked between 701 and 4,000 and between 4,001 and 9,000 are scheduled.

The auditorium of the Karnataka Polytechnic has been converted into the help desk. Eight separate counters have been set up in the auditorium.

Chief Nodal Officer of the Helpline Centre Jagjeevan Das Bhandary said while one counter was earmarked for registration, the other seven were meant for document verification. At each counter, there was a lecturer to check the documents, and a data entry operator to feed the information of each candidate going through the process. “It largely went smoothly. We could finish the process of each student within two minutes,” he said. The last session ended around 6.30 p.m.

Candidates were largely happy with the facilities at the helpline. “I have not faced any problems so far,” said Rajat S. Bhat from Puttur who was waiting to be called for the fourth counselling session.

Gourish Prabhu, a student of Canara PU College, had to wait for the last session as he could not be in time for the third session. He is eyeing a seat in mechanical engineering or computer science. “I am taking part in this process. I am also awaiting ranking of Joint Entrance Examination and see whether I get to study the course in NIT-K, Surathkal,” he said.

Soundarya Bangera, who has pursued Commerce in II Pre-University Course, had been ranked under architecture. During verification of documents, the website had problems displaying marks she obtained in English. After a 30-minute wait, officials at the Centre managed to contact those in Bengaluru and finish verifying her documents.

Document verification for online seat selection process of diploma seats is also going on at another helpline centre on the Karnataka Polytechnic campus. The centre has five separate counters. This help desk is located in the main building of the polytechnic. Of 2,168 students who bought the applications, 1,077 candidates have submitted them and undergone the process of document verification. The process will be on till June 8. Merit list will be announced on June 9.
