Pilikula zoo: Visitors asked to dip feet in disinfectant solution

Published - January 05, 2017 12:24 am IST - MANGALURU:

Visitors to the Pilikula Biological Park at Dr. Shivarama Karantha Pilikula Nisargadhama are being asked to dip their feet in a disinfectant solution before entering the park from Wednesday.

It is a precautionary measure in view of the bird flu outbreak in some parts of the country, including Mysuru zoo. Director of the park, H. Jayaprakash Bhandary, told The Hindu that open bird ponds at the park have been covered with nets to prevent the entry of birds from outside. Even the tyres of vehicles which move inside the park are being sprayed with the disinfectant solution. People living close to the park have been told to inform the park authorities about death of any bird outside the jurisdiction of the zoo. They have been told not to touch such birds, he said.

So far no bird flu has been found at Pilikula and all precautionary measures are being taken, he said.
