Poornaprajna College has been accredited for another five years, with Grade “A” with 3.15 Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA), by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) of India.
Principal of the college K. Sadashiva Rao told presspersons here on Wednesday that NAAC was an autonomous institution of the University Grants Commission (UGC). The decision to grant Grade “A” was taken by NAAC at its executive committee meeting in Bangalore on March 27.
The certificate of accreditation will be distributed by Vedprakash, Chairman of UGC, at a function to be held on the NAAC campus in Bangalore on April 24. Chairman of the Executive Committee at NAAC Goverdhan Mehta will be present.
The peer team of NAAC comprising its chairperson and former Vice-Chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University, Punjab, S.P. Singh, the member-coordinator of the team and director and principal of the Marthoma College of Management and Technology, Kerala, Rajan Varghese, and the member of the team and head of the biotechnology unit, Jai Narayana Vyas University, Rajasthan, Narpat Singh Shekhavat, visited Poornaprajna College on February 11 and 12. The team assessed the documents relating to the activities of the college during the last five years.
The team visited various departments, assessed the infrastructure and physical facilities and interacted with president and members of the management committee, students, faculty members, non-teaching staff, alumni and parents.
They made a SWOT analysis of the institution.
“We are delighted that among the 20 institutions accredited on March 27, we were on the top with highest CGPA,” Prof. Rao said.
The head of the college's Department of History, B. Jagadeesh Shetty, and the head of the Department of Kannada, Srikant Siddapura, were present.
