Dell India’s Research and Development Centre on Friday signed a memorandum of understanding with National Institute of Technology, Karnataka, to find solutions to computing and hardware problems.
Rudramuni B., Executive Director and Head Dell India R&D Centre, told presspersons that assistance of students and faculty members of NIT-K was being taken to find “unique” solutions to some specific problems. The agreement was for three years and could be extended, said Mr. Rudramuni, who is an NIT-K alumnus.
To start with, Mr. Rudramuni said the students had been given three problems. First one was to find a cost-effective solution for problems to multi-user machines that were exposed to dusty and humid conditions. The other two were related to cloud software and security technologies. This was the first time Dell India’s R&D Centre was associating with an educational institution in the country, he said.
Director of NIT-K Swapan Bhattacharya said the collaboration with companies such as Dell India exposed NIT-K students to problems that were more relevant. “They (students) have much at stake,” he said. The institution had similar collaboration with firms including Microsoft and IBM.
On December 6, NIT-K signed an MoU with Udupi Sri Krishna Technologies for another collaborative research in areas of mutual interest, he said.
