Marthandam All Women Police have arrested a youth for sexually abusing a teen in the pretext of marrying her.
Police said Abhilash, 23, from a village near Thadikaarankonam had been sexually abusing a girl studying Class 10 on the promise of marrying her. On coming to know about the affair, their parents decided to get them married on August 30.
Following a tip-off, officials from the District Social Welfare Office, along with police, swooped on the village on Thursday as the marriage was to be solemnised the following day. After warning the parents of the girl and the boy of serious legal consequences, the officials inquired the girl who reportedly told the counsellors that she was sexually abused by the youth on several occasions.
Subsequently, Marthandam All Women Police arrested Abhilash while sending the girl to a Government Home.
