Water released from Dindigul, Theni reservoirs

Releasing water for irrigation from the reservoirs in Dindigul and Theni districts would benefit close to 6000 acres of farmland during the ensuing season.

Minister of Forests Dindigul C. Srinivasan said that the water release from Palar Porunthalar in Palani taluk for the next 130 days (till March 2019) would benefit 844 acres. The PWD would release 20 cusecs.

In Theni district, Collector M. Pallavi Baldev released water from the Manjalar dam in Periyakulam block. The release would benefit 5259 acres. In a brief chat with reporters here on Wednesday, she said the old ayacutdars would get water for 143 days: October 24 to December 15 (60 cusecs), December 16 to January 31 (50 cusecs) and February 1- March 15 (45 cusecs). For the new ayacutdars, the arrangement would be as follows: October 24 to November 30 (40 cusecs), December 1 to February 28 (30 cusecs) and March 1 to March 15 (20 cusecs).

The villages, including Devadanapatti, Ganguvarpatti and G. Kallupatti in Theni district and Kanavaipatti, Batlagundu and Sivagnanapuram and others in Dindigul district would benefit from the water release, she added.
