Corporation Commissioner (in-charge) N. Arumuga Nainar has clarified that parking fee for motorcycles at all the parking lots in the city including those at the three bus stands had been fixed at only Rs. 3.
When the issue of collection of Rs. 4 as parking fee for 12 hours at all the bus stands was taken to the notice of the Commissioner, Mr. Nainar said that the Corporation had fixed the fee only at Rs. 3. “This is inclusive of all the taxes, including the service tax. We have not revised the parking fee this year. Collection of fee more than the prescribed one will not be allowed,” he told reporters.
Complaint on collection of Rs. 4 as parking fee by the contractor at the parking lot along the Arapalayam bus stand has been an issue for quiet some time now. The contractor has been collecting an additional Re one as “service tax”. But, after the recent auctioning of parking lots, the contractors have silently raised the fee even at the parking lot in Mattuthavani Integrated Bus Stand.
Though the ticket is given only for Rs. 3 those manning the parking lot have been demanding and taking only Rs. 4. Similarly, at the Shopping Complex Bus stand too, where the parking lot has been maintained by the Corporation itself, the staff have been demanding Rs. 4.
At the Eco Park
Worse was the case with the parking space of the Eco Park where the contractors have been demanding Rs. 5 from those come to the park in the evening.
Deputy Commissioner (in-charge) A. Devadoss, who is also the Assistant Commissioner for Zone 2, asked the officials to look into the complaint.
Mr. Nainar directed officials to insist on the contractors putting up huge boards to display the parking fee in all the parking lots. He ordered the officials to verify the veracity of the complaints with the users and issue show cause notices to the erring contractors.
