MADURAI
Members of Tamil Nadu Village Administrative Officers Association took out a march from Raja Mutthiah Mandram to the Collectorate here condemning the Tamil Nadu government for not fulfilling their long-pending demands.
Their strike entered the ninth day on Tuesday. A total of 163 members of the Association participated in the march. They are demanding, among other things, revival of the old pension scheme.
C. Rajamani, district secretary of the Association, said the State government had been postponing promotions and posting the VAOs in new districts for four years, causing a great discomfort to them.
“Our offices do not have basic amenities like toilets and drinking water facilities. Since we are out on the field all through the day and work without fixed time, we should get better pay. The government must provide computers with internet facilities to the VAOs in all the offices as all certification and approvals are now going digital,” he said.
Mr. Rajamani said though three rounds of discussion on their demands had been completed by higher officials in Chennai, the association was yet to receive a favourable response from them. The government was indifferent to their demands, he added.
