Attacking Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam for not fielding a candidate in Dindigul, Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam leader TTV Dhinakaran said they had betrayed MGR’s followers.

Speaking in support of AMMK candidate P. Jothi Murugan, who is contesting in “Gift Box” symbol for the Lok Sabha, Mr. Dhinakaran said that when the CM and his Deputy claimed that they have the party (AIADMK) and the symbol (Two leaves) with them, then why did they not contest from Dindigul, which was the first constituency from where party founder M G Ramachandran registered victory after he was thrown out of DMK in the early 1970s.

The AIADMK was under the wrong impression that the AMMK was finished in the political arena. But it came back like a Phoenix from the RK Nagar Assembly by-poll. Now, though, the election was held for the Lok Sabha, the AMMK would play a key role in deciding the next Prime Minister as the party would get a wholesome victory in Tamil Nadu, Mr. Dhinakaran said.

Recalling the sacrifice made by his aunt Sasikala in selection of the Chief Minister post after Jayalalithaa’s demise, he said “She could have made me the CM after Mr. Panneerselvam quit. But, she didn’t. Instead, she made Mr. Palaniswami as the CM,” he said.

Mr. Dhinakaran equally slammed DMK for doing nothing for the State. Despite taking key ministerial portfolios in Centre for a decade in the UPA regime, it did nothing tangible, and only some individuals benefited, he said.

If people cast their votes for the right persons, they could change the fate of the State, he said.

Earlier, he campaigned for the party candidate in Palani and left for Vedasandur, which falls in Karur Lok Sabha constituency.
