THOOTHUKUDI
A woman working as stenographer at a court in Thoothukudi was admitted to a private hospital with a bleeding injury she allegedly sustained inside the District Court Complex on Monday evening. The 38-year-old woman was taken to the hospital with blood oozing from behind her earlobe.
Hospital authorities admitted her only after she submitted a written complaint to the police detailing the circumstances under which she had sustained the injury. Doctors attending to her said the injury was “not so serious” and that “she is fine”.
Since the incident occurred on the court premises and following claims that she was assaulted, senior police officers held discussions with judicial officers on how to proceed with the complaint.
Thoothukudi Superintendent of Police Arun Balagopalan told The Hindu that the local police received an intimation from the hospital, following which a statement was obtained from the woman. “We are inquiring,” he said.
