A student, who had completed Class X from Kendriya Vidyalaya No 1 in Narimedu here died under mysterious circumstances with injuries on his face and neck on Saturday on his return from school after checking the admission list for Plus One. Stating that preliminary enquiries had indicated that the boy, N. Sundarapandian from Meenambalpuram, incurred the injuries on falling down while walking back home, the city police, however, added that they had registered a case of suspicious death as physical assault had not been ruled out completely.

According to the family, Sundarapandian, son of R. Nagendrapandian, who works as a Chief Head Warder in the Sub Jail in Manapparai, was dropped by his father at the school. Asking his father to leave, Sundarapandian reportedly checked the admission list and walked back home alone a little past noon.

His mother N. Amudha, who was going to a grocery shop near their house, saw Sundarapandian coming home, riding pillion with a stranger in a motorbike, with minor blood injuries on his face, police said.

Even as she offered him water and made him sit comfortably at their home, he allegedly fell partially unconscious. He was rushed to a private hospital nearby and later to Government Rajaji Hospital, where the doctors declared him brought dead. His body was subsequently taken to the GRH mortuary, where post-mortem would be performed on Sunday.

P. Selvaraj, Principal, Kendriya Vidyalaya No 1, said that no untoward incident happened inside the school premises. “He came to school. He even interacted with one of our teachers and expressed happiness that he had got the Humanities group he had opted for. He later left the school. We have confirmed the same through CCTV footage,” he added. Police officials said that there were eyewitnesses who saw Sundarapandian falling down near a shop on his way back home, following which they helped him reach home in a bike. The family members were heard raising suspicion over the nature of injuries. The Sellur police are investigating the case.
