July 13, 2012 01:15 pm | Updated 01:15 pm IST - MADURAI:

Frequent complaints from residents in and around the Sholavandan-Thirumangalam Main Road about the presence of TASMAC liquor outlet and the problems faced by them, Collector Anshul Mishra directed the authorities to take stock of the location of all TASMAC outlets in the district.

Presiding over the monthly law and order meeting here on Thursday in the presence of Superintendent of Police V. Balakrishnan, senior revenue and other department officials, the Collector said that the TASMAC authorities shall prepare a comprehensive list of the location of TASMAC shops.

“Let us try to keep the liquor outlets and the bar away from educational institutions, dwellings, places of worship, hospitals in as many spots as possible…Kindly follow the guidelines issued by the government in this regard,” he told the authorities and come prepared with the list for the next meeting. “Wherever, there were violations, let us immediately shift the TASMAC outlets,” he asserted.

Mr. Mishra directed the Corporation Deputy Commissioner, Sambavi, to look into the complaints from public residing in Pasumalai, Teppakulam, TN Housing Board Colony and among other colonies about the short supply of drinking water. Ensure that distribution was evenly carried out in all residential localities, he also stressed.

On reports about installation of statues in the district by some persons without seeking permission, he termed it as a violation and warned them of stern police action as per the law.

The Collector instructed the revenue officials to ensure that there were no attempts by any group or persons to install statues, which may create unnecessary ripples in the society. Maintenance of law and order is essential and any attempt to cause problems would be dealt with an iron hand, he added.

Ahead of “Adi Ammavasai” celebrations at Alagarkoil temple here and at Saduragiri Sundaramahalingam Temple, near Virudhunagar, a coordination meeting involving officials of police, revenue, transport, fire and rescue services, HR and CE, departments shall be convened soon to discuss the arrangements, the meeting resolved.
