The district police arrested a mechanic for the murder of a temporary postman at Samayanallur, Paulraj, on Sunday. The police identified the accused as Muthupandi. The accused was lured by a bag carried by Paulraj, who was drunk, the police said.
Paulraj had picked a quarrel with the conductor of a town bus after getting down at Dafeddar Santhai, and he kept abusing the conductor even after the bus had left.
Muthupandi, who knew that Paulraj was a postman attached to the Samayanallur Post Office, approached him. Seeing the bag and the one sovereign gold ring he had, Muthupandi took him to an isolated place and slit his throat with a hacksaw blade. Paulraj could not put up any resistance. The gold ring which Muthupandi had pledged in a pawn broker shop in Jaihindpuram was recovered.
