HC allows more participants for homage event

The Madurai Bench of Madras High Court on Wednesday heard a series of public interest litigation petitions that sought permission to conduct a homage meeting for victims of Thoothukudi firing incident.

A Division Bench of Justices J. Nisha Banu and M. Dhandapani, hearing the petitions, observed that the petitioners could take part in the event organised by activist Fathima Babu at Bell Hotel in Thoothukudi.

The court, which had earlier permitted 250 people to participate in the event, allowed a further 250 for the event to be held on May 22, to mark the first anniversary of police firing on anti-Sterlite protesters in which 13 people were killed.
