Mangled remains of the car, which met with an accident at Poduvakudi near Paramakudi in Ramanathapuram district on Tuesday.

In a tragic incident, four persons, including three members of a family – a man and his two daughters – were killed and another person suffered serious injuries when a car and a two-wheeler collided at Poduvakudi on Paramakudi four-lane highway on Tuesday.

Police said Usman, 55, of Sathankulam, who owned a marriage hall here, was returning home with his two daughters, Thasleema, 35, and Ainool, 33, after picking up his son-in-law and Ainool’s husband Hasali, 36, from Madurai airport after he arrived from Malaysia.

When the car was crossing Poduvakudi, it collided with a two-wheeler. After fatally knocking down the two-wheeler rider, the car swerved and dashed against a roadside parapet and toppled. The two-wheeler rider, Sankar, 54, a DMK functionary from Mani Nagar, died on the spot.

While Usman and his two daughters died on the spot, Mr. Hasali was admitted to the local government hospital with serious injuries, the police said.

The car driver, identified as Senthilkumar, escaped with minor injuries. He fled from the accident scene.

Local people made vain attempts to pull out the victims from the mangled car. Emaneswaram police and Fire and Rescue Services personnel rushed to the spot and pulled them out. Emaneswaram police have registered a case and are investigating.
