Minister for Tourism S. Gokula Indra inspected the ongoing development works in a few tourist destinations including Courtallam in the district on Monday.
Since the State Government had allotted Rs. 5 crore for executing development works in some of the tourist spots in the district including Courtallam, the Minister inspected the progress made in the implementation of the work so far.
After inspecting the Tourist Information Centre near the Courtallam bus-stand, the Minister went to the nearby Vishwanath Rao Park where she checked the play equipment, lighting facilities, fountains and the granite benches since the ‘Spa of the South’ would attract a few lakh tourists during the season between June and August.
She asked the officials to check the sturdiness of the stainless steel handrails fitted along the roads and then went to the Main Falls where similar protective rails had been erected on the way to the waterfalls and also along the bridge.
She checked the maintenance of dressing rooms meant for women near the Main Falls
Ms. Gokula Indra then inspected the facilities near Five Falls and also the Horticulture Park being created near VIP Falls.
While urging the officials concerned to complete the work as early as possible, the Minister told them to ensure the quality of work. She then visited the Murugan Temple at Aayikudi.
Though Ms. Gokula Indra had planned to inspect the ongoing development works at Agsthiyar Falls in Papanasam, Mundanthurai, Paanatheertham, Manimuthar Falls and also at Kalakkad, she had to truncate the programme on coming to know the killing of R. Thamizh Mani (25), son of Minister for Cooperation Sellur K. Raju, in a road accident at Chennai.
