Clubs pledge support to youth for his future expedition

As many as 26 clubs and associations, including the Rotary, Lions and Athletic Clubs have pledged support to S. Mohamed Harun Faizal, the young software engineer who undertook 37-day cycle expedition to Kashmir on ‘save water mission’ in his future endeavours.

A week after Collector S. Natarajan congratulated Faizal (26), the ‘son of the soil’ for completing the expedition, covering 3,468 km from Kanniyakumari to Kashmir, creating an awareness of ‘save water, save farmers and go green’ concepts, heads of various clubs and associations offered their support to him at the felicitation, organised here on Monday.

R. Bharani Kumar of Arogya Hosptial, who organised the event, congratulated Mr. Faizal for bringing laurels to the district, while heads of other clubs and associations commended him for his commitment towards social causes and assured of all help in his future endeavours.

Those felicitated included A. Chinnadurai Abdulla, Rotary District Governor, A Chelladurai Abdullah, President, Hockey unit of Tamil Nadu, A. Ravichandra Ramavanni, President, district Volleyball Association, Ragland Madhuram, Secretary, district Indian Red Cross Society, M. Somasundram, Vice-President, district Bar Association, K T Prabakaran, Secretary, district Cricket Association, and Raja, Secretary, district Badminton Association.

S.S. Shaiek Abdullah, Assistant Director, Seed Certification, Agriculture department, and father of Mr. Faizal, said his wife K. Rosanara was great source of inspiration for his son to complete the expedition. When he asked his son not to take the risk and focus on his career, his wife encouraged him a lot, he said.

Sharing his experience, Mr. Faizal said during the expedition along with his colleague M. Vikram, also a software engineer, he reached out to a wide section of people through social media and conveyed the message of ‘save water, save farmer and go green’ loud and clear.
