Corporation Commissioner S. Aneesh Sekhar levied fines on small-scale eateries amounting to ₹1.34 lakh across four zones as they were found to be dumping garbage on roads here on Tuesday.

According to a press statement, the Corporation Commissioner during his regular morning inspections found a large amount of garbage had been dumped on the roads during night time. He instructed health inspectors from all four zones to depute teams in order to determine the cause of the excessive dumping.

During their evening inspections, it was found that small-scale eateries and food stalls often dumped garbage on the roads without segregating and disposing them of in dumper bins.

Notices were sent to 154 shops across zones by the officials to ensure that such dumping does not repeat. Zone 4 came in with the highest fine collection of ₹ 48,000 as 39 shops were penalised. In Zone three, 24 shops were fined ₹ 35,000. The highest number of defaulters were found in Zone 2 with 54 shops paying ₹ 30,500. In zone 1, 37 shops paid ₹ 20,500.

The Commissioner warned that defaulters who repeat callous garbage dumping on roads would face serious charges.
