THOOTHUKUDI

Collector Sandeep Nanduri on Monday said all gates of Sterlite Copper plant had been sealed and the company management had not approached the district administration seeking administrative access.

Talking to press persons here, he said evacuation of chemicals and other substances from the plant had been stopped. “Once the company submits a request, a report will be sent to the State government and action will be taken as per the instructions of the government,” he said.

Mr. Nanduri said Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board had done adequate tests to find the pollution levels in the area and if more tests were needed, they would be conducted and the results would be submitted before National Green Tribunal (NGT).

The NGT, in an order, had granted Sterlite management access to the administrative section of the plant.

Mr. Nanduri said Justice Aruna Jagadeesan Commission had met 12 persons in Thoothukudi. The Commission Chairperson would visit the city again this month, he added.
