Man, sister get 7 years RI for spreading HIV to two girls

An HIV positive man has been sentenced to seven years rigorous imprisonment by a court here raping two girls and afflicting them with the virus to take revenge on their family.

Chief Judicial Magistrate C. Murugambal also sentenced a 30-year-old sister of the man to seven years imprisonment for helping him in luring the two girls and slapped a fine of Rs. 4,000 on both the convicts on Wednesday here.

According to the prosecution, the 35-year-old man bore ill-will towards Dharmar and Marichamy of his native village Kotthankulam near here following a local election dispute.

To take revenge on them, he conspired to spread the HIV to the daughters of Dharmar and Marichamy.

He had lured the girls, in their teens, with help of his sister and raped them.

As the two girls developed illness and on examination diagnosed to be suffering from AIDS, their parents found that the HIV positive man was responsible for the same.

On a complaint from the parents, police registered a case and arrested the man and his sister. Cases were also filed against them.
