Yesudas to honour Pappukkutty

Published - April 02, 2012 12:57 pm IST - Kochi:

Pappukkutty Bhagavathar a.k.a ‘Kerala Saigal' will be honoured on the occasion of his birth centenary at a function organised by Artist P.J. Cherian Foundation at Changampuzha Park at Edapally here on Tuesday.

The legendary singer, who took to the stage as an actor-singer at the tender age of seven, had worked in the drama troupe of Artist P.J. Cherian.

Eventually, he evolved a lasting friendship with another great musician, Augustine Joseph — singer K.J. Yesudas' father — who was an effervescent presence in the theatre experiments of P. J. Cherian and V.S. Andrews.

Time will come full circle when on Tuesday Mr. Yesudas will honour the living legend, who remains active as a singer even today. The event, jointly organised by the P.J. Cherian Foundation, M.K. Sanoo Foundation, Chavara Cultural Centre and Smruthidhara, will be inaugurated by Union Minister of State for Food K.V. Thomas.
