: The arrogance with which Chief Minister Oommen Chandy had been asked not to attend the function to unveil the statue of R. Sankar in Kollam was a sign of disrespect to the former chief minister himself, said V. D. Satheesan, MLA.

He was speaking at a seminar on corruption, power and communalism, organised by St. Thomas Marthoma Church, Kalamassery on Sunday.

The seminar was organised to mark the golden jubilee of the parish church.

A press release from the organisers of the seminar cited Mr. Satheesan as also saying that paying bribes was a crime too.

‘PM too must skip event’

Former MP and district secretary of the CPI (M) P. Rajeeve said that since the Chief Minister had been asked to stay away from the function, Prime Minister Narendra Modi too must skip the event. He said that the incident was the result of political leaders genuflecting before community leaders.
