The Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2018 survey, which aims at giving rankings to districts and grama panchayats based on various sanitation parameters, began in Ernakulam on Wednesday.
An official release said that Asha Sanil, president of Ernakulam District Panchayat, inaugurated the district-level activities of the initiative. A brochure on the programme was released on the occasion.
The survey was launched by the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation to rank districts and States on the basis of quantitative and qualitative sanitation (Swachhata) parameters. The top performing States and districts are expected to be awarded on October 2.
Rural communities will be engaged in the improvement of sanitation and cleanliness of their surrounding areas. About 6,980 villages in 698 districts across India will be covered under the Swachh Survekshan Grameen.
