More projects for women in District Budget

The district panchayat will start a centre for cashing on the collective spirit of women with an aim to raise their social status and create job opportunities.

District panchayat president, U. Prathibha Hari in her introductory speech prior to the presentation of the budget said that the centre will act as a coordinating centre for all women welfare projects of the district panchayat. The centre will house training centres, travel desk, restaurant, night stay, office of the ‘jagratha samithis'. The speech, noted for its literary content, also did not forgot to quote from the American Intelligence Agency warning that the water may lead to major conflicts in the world.

Ms. Hari also said that a slew of health projects that provides succour to women workers engaged in prawn peeling and cashew processing will be kicked off. A bi-monthly publication will be started for women workers, Government employees and students, which will be a forum for discussing daily problems affecting women's lives. She said that the district panchayat by starting sowing seeds in fallow lands serve a warning to the ‘land mafia'.

She said that Kavalam village will be made a model village for taking up activities that makes it self-sufficient.
