The detailed project report (DPR) on the Kochi metro’s 11-km-long Kakkanad extension is under the government’s consideration, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said in reply to a calling attention motion by P.T. Thomas, MLA.

The Centre had asked Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) to submit a revised DPR in accordance with the Centre’s new Metro Policy.

Back in May 2017, the State government had accorded sanction for the ₹2,577-crore Kakkanad extension.

Further action will be taken on the basis of the Centre’s nod for the revised DPR, the Chief Minister said.

On the 17-acre metro township envisaged in the land owned by the Public Works Department (PWD) in Kakkanad, Mr. Vijayan said that the District Collector had ordered the handing over of the land to KMRL.
