T.H. Nadeera of the Congress has been elected the new chairperson, the fourth in as many years, of the Maradu Municipality.
The post of chairperson had been lying vacant for the past 27 days after Suneela Siby stepped down, as per a prior understanding within the Congress. Ms. Nadeera told The Hindu that her priority would be to make the waste treatment plant installed in the municipality operational.
Councillor Rathi Divakaran of the CPI(M) said frequent changes at the helm hardly helped the municipality’s functioning over the past four years.
