LDF loses power in Perumbavoor

July 10, 2019 12:30 am | Updated 12:30 am IST - Kochi

The CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) rule came to an end in Perumbavoor municipality on Tuesday after a no-confidence motion moved by the United Democratic Front (UDF) was passed with the support of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), PDP, and one Independent councillor. Biju John Jacob of the Congress moved the no-confidence motion against the LDF rule led by chairperson Sathy Jayakrishnnan alleging corruption and nepotism. The LDF has 13 members in the council. The Congress, which has nine members, managed to pass the no-confidence motion with the support of three BJP councillors, one PDP councillor and one Independent.

With the LDF, which had over a year to complete its term, losing the majority, there is a possibility of the municipality witnessing another round of elections to the council soon.
