The State government is making all efforts to resolve the waste management crisis at Brahmapuram till the waste-to-energy plant is set up, A.C. Moideen, Minister for Local Self-Governments, has said.

Speaking to reporters after visiting the Brahmapuram plant, Mr. Moideen said cities like Kochi needed a centralised waste management programme though the government policy was for decentralised solutions.

Steps for treating leachet flowing out of garbage heaps are being taken. Leachet flow can be controlled only when the waste accumulated on the campus is removed, he said.

Incidentally, residents have been complaining of pest attacks and the stench emanating from garbage heaps. They have demanded that the garbage be transported to the plant only in covered vehicles.

V.P. Sajeendran, MLA; Mayor Soumini Jain, Deputy Mayor T.J. Vinod, health standing committee chairperson V.K. Minimol, development standing committee chairman P.M. Harris, LDF leader in the council K.J. Antony, and Corporation Secretary A.S. Anuja were present.
