The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Aluva and Kalamassery area committees have demanded an inquiry into the formation of cracks on many parts of the compound wall of the Kochi metro’s coach maintenance depot at Muttom.

The party’s Kalamassery area vice president, Nandakumar M, said anomalies in piling had resulted in the wall on the yard’s eastern side suffering damage. Sources in the DMRC said a 30-metre-long portion of the 2-km wall was pulled down for repairs after it suffered cracks during earth-filling works.

“We will rectify the damage and all due care will be taken to ensure the strength of the wall around the yard,” they said.
