Congress district president Roy K. Paulose has demanded that a proper inquiry should be conducted in to all political murders in Idukki district in the wake of CPI(M) district secretary M.M. Mani's revelation that his party had prepared a list to eliminate its opponents in the district.

Addressing media persons at the Idukki Press Club in Thodupuzha on Monday, he said that the comment of the CPI (M) district secretary shocked the conscience of the people of the State and what was demanded was a proper inquiry into the political murders which have taken place in the district. He said that the revelation of the CPI (M) district secretary should not be considered as mere remarks, but in its seriousness, and an impartial inquiry and strong steps need to be taken against the culprits.

Mr. Paulose said that the inquiry should not be confined to a particular murder. All suspicious cases of political murders should come in its scope. He also demanded that those police officials who investigated such murders should also be brought under a fresh inquiry. A political space and the freedom to conduct party works without fear need to be provided to all.

The fabric of democracy is based on freedom of expression and those who are being targeted and termed as ‘class enemies' should not go in tune with the democratic principle, he said, adding that by eliminating the political opponents, the freedom of a party to work on democratic principles is being targeted.

The inquiry into the murderers should be conducted without political interference and partiality. He proposed that the inquiry should be conducted by those officials who are independent and are supported by the Left Democratic Front too.
