Norman Joseph, vice president of the Ernakulam South Block committee of the Indian National Congress, was suspended from the organisation for “causing disgrace to the party” at the Indira Gandhi martyrdom day observance meeting here on Thursday.

Mr. Joseph wanted Congress leaders who were attending the meeting at the District Congress Committee office to take a firm stand on the removal of Mayor Soumini Jain from the post. A minor scuffle broke out after some party leaders attempted to pacify him. Subesequently, DCC president T.J. Vinod, MLA, suspended Mr. Norman from the organisation.

Ms. Jain too was present at the meeting.
