The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has a national appeal and is therefore trying to reach out to people across States, including Kerala, where the focus will be on strengthening it at the grassroots, two senior leaders of the party told the media here on Friday.
“Kerala has seen the UDF and the LDF alternately coming to power and being friendly to each other, trying not to probe each other’s scams. There’s also the violence fomented by the CPI(M) and the BJP. The AAP doesn’t endorse violence and is therefore determined to do all that’s possible to build the party at the booth-level and carry out a political campaign to free the State from corruption,” Somnath Bharti, legislator in Delhi, said.
Ashutosh said that the party would contest the Gujarat elections and the local body polls in Uttar Pradesh. “The country is facing a serious crisis in an unprecedented manner and fascism is staring at us. The opposition is not united as there’s neither any ideological clarity nor organisational strategy. We are also in a dilemma, but everyone knows that India is waiting for a real third alternative and a fundamental change is on the horizon.”
He said besides the social, political and civilisational crises, the country was on the verge of an economic crisis. Earlier, interacting with a clutch of persons on ‘Freedom of Expression: Oxygen for Democracy’, they maintained that annihilation of dissent formed part of a larger strategy on the part of forces that were trying to legitimise a constricted view of Hinduism and nationalism.
AAP State convenor C.R. Neelakandan was present.
