Residences of several Popular Front and Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) leaders and activists were raided in several parts of the district on Friday, with some of the raids resulting in the seizure of weapons, pamphlets and CDs that are being analysed by the police.
The raids began around 2 p.m. at Mannancherry, Kayamkulam and Vallikunnu among other places. At Mannancherry, teams led by Kuthiathode Circle Inspector Sundar Rajan, accompanied by sub-inspectors and constables from the police stations of Kuthiathode, Aroor, Arthunkal and Muhamma along with constables from the Special Branch began the procedures by raiding the residence of SDPI district secretary T.M. Samad, from where CDs were seized.
The raid on the house of P.P. Subair, an SDPI activist, resulted in seizure of weapons including a sword, a ‘Nanchaku', pamphlets and CDs, Mr. Sundar Rajan said, adding that the raids were based on information related to the attack on T.J. Joseph, a professor with Newman College, Thodupuzha.
The raids were continuing late into the night.
