Sublime poetry will be in motion in the city with the theatre group Lokadharmi presenting visual adaptations of three powerful poems — Saphalamee Yatra [Fruitful Journey] by N.N. Kakkad, Rosily by Ayyappa Paniker and Night of the Scorpion by Nissim Ezekiel –– in an hour-long performance titled, ‘An evening of poetry in theatre’ at CAC on IS Press Road for three evenings from Sunday.
The rendering of the modern classic Saphalamee Yatra , essayed on stage through multiple devices of theatre, has its script written by mediaperson Anand Haridas. While parts of the evocative poem on the meaning of life in the face of imminent and certain death are rendered by a vocalist-percussionist combine, actors Nazim Biswas and Anugraha Paul breathe life into situations from the life of a couple.
Brilliant actors V.R. Selvaraj and Pradeep Sukumar render the father-in-law and son-in-law in Paniker’s Rosily in a piece of pulsating, musical theatre.
The last of the package, and arguably the most spectacular piece in the portmanteau, is Night of the Scorpion which draws upon a scorpion-stung mother’s suffering to elaborate on the superstitions and untold miseries of Indian villages.
Limited seating is available for the performance and entry is restricted through passes priced at Rs.100 apiece.
