This is an invitation for all – Ministers, the Mayor, police officials, filmmakers, writers and the common man – to return to the childhood memories of launching paper boats in little streams created by rain.
The Vyloppilli Memorial Cultural Centre is organising a festival of poetry, stories, music and film songs to be in company with rain all through the day on Sunday.
The programme, titled Mazhayum Kadalasuthoniyum (Rain and paper boat) will start with the launching of a paper boat in a small stream created in front of the centre's office at Judge's Avenue.
M.A. Baby, Minister for Culture and Education; Benoy Viswom, Minister for Forests; Mercy Williams, Mayor; C.K. Manisankar, Deputy Mayor; B. Sandhya, Inspector General of Police, Ernakulam Range; Kamal, filmmaker; and writers D. Vinayachandran, A.V. Anil Kumar, M.V. Benny, Santhosh Echikkanam, S. Joseph, Susmesh Chandroth and Murukan Kattakada will be present.
Poems on the theme of rain by Vyloppilly Sreedhara Menon, Sugathakumari, Kadamanitta Ramakrishnan, Balamaniamma, ONV Kurup and Kahlil Gibran will be presented at the festival, along with stories by Thakazhi, S.K. Pottekad, Padmarajan, N.P. Narayana Pillai and Kattuparambil Sreedharan. Select songs from Malayalam films on the theme will also be rendered.
The festival will be held between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
