Mohammed Abdul Wajid, who sustained injury after being hit with a bat by a youngster playing cricket at Idgah ground in Mir Alam tank in Bahadurpura two days ago, died on Tuesday while undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

Scores of teams comprising youngsters play cricket matches side by side at the ground on Sundays. Often, members of one team run into the pitch of another team.

Twenty-two-year-old Wajid too played cricket match last Sunday. While running to catch the ball, he came close to the stumps of another team. “At the same time, the batsman of that team, tried to hit a ball but the bat hit Wajid as he came within its reach,” the Charminar ACP Ashok Chakravarthy said.

Most of the match playing teams use stones to support the stumps. Hit by the bat, Wajid fell on the stumps and banged his head against the stones. He was rushed to hospital where he succumbed to the injuries on Tuesday.

A case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder was registered against the batsman Irfan who allegedly hit Wajid.
