World Hypertension Day tomorrow

On the occasion of World Hypertension Day, which is on Sunday (May 17), experts in Hyderabad have called for a concerted effort to spread awareness on the need to control blood pressure levels. Doctors have pointed out that uncontrolled blood pressure is exposing large section of population to cardiovascular ailments in India.

“We are in the brink of significant health related repercussions, including cardiovascular disaster, stroke, peripheral artery disease, chronic kidney disease. These ailments can be stemmed only through concerted measures to detect and treat hypertension effectively,” said Director, Apollo Institute of Blood Pressure Management, Dr. C. Venkat S Ram. Physicians advise life style changes including reduction of salt intake, alcohol consumption and weight, besides greater physical activity and use of individual anti-hypertensive drug or drug combinations as initial therapy.
