A woman killed her husband by pouring kerosene and set him afire at their house at Maruthinagar in Malkajgiri on Saturday night.

She fled the spot after committing the murder.

Police said real-estate businessman N. Raghu (45) returned home in an intoxicated condition and picked up a quarrel with his wife Pushpa over a trivial issue. Though she tried to pacify Raghu, he did not relent.

Angered over her husband's attitude, Pushpa poured kerosene on him, while he was asleep and set him ablaze.

Raghu, who suffered 90 per cent burns, was shifted to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead, according to police. Police said Pushpa committed the crime after sending her children to a grocery store for purchasing essential commodities.

Police said family dispute could be the main reason for the incident.
