As many as 6,59,000 people would be exercising their franchise on December 7 when the Telangana Assembly goes to polls and there is still time till November 19 to enrol as voters, said Warangal Urban District Collector Prashanth Jeevan Patil.

During the recent enrolment drive, over 43,000 new voters enrolled. The urban district will be going to polls for the three Assembly constituencies - Warangal Urban, Warangal Rural and Wardhannapet. A total of 690 polling stations were planned and more than 3,000 personnel would be deployed for the polling day duties apart from 1,100 revenue and police supporting staff. “We have requisitioned for 60 companies of CRPF for bandobust duties,” Mr. Patil explained.

Speaking to The Hindu , the Collector said they have set up three flying squads, three static surveillance teams and one model code of conduct team in each of three constituencies.

Mr. Patil said that the district authorities have seized ₹ 16 lakh cash, 650 litres of ID liquor so far and bounded over 43 people in excise cases, besides 90 rowdy elements. A total of 165 weapons were impounded as part of election preparedness, he said.

“Of the total 690 polling stations, 159 polling stations are categorised as critical as they registered abnormal polling percentage during last elections and where people belonging to different political parties clashed. We are arranging web casting at these polling stations,” he said.

The district administration procured 1,070 ballot units (EVMs), 910 VVPATs and 840 control units in three constituencies in Warangal Urban district.

The counting of votes of these constituencies would be held at Enumamula agricultural market.

EC permission sought

Meanwhile, Warangal Rural district authorities have also asked for the permission of the Election Commission to hold counting of votes of Parkal and Narasampet constituencies here at same venue, but permission is pending.

The erstwhile Warangal district has 12 constituencies and counting of votes always took place at Enumamula market. With bifurcation of districts, now counting can be held at respective district headquarters of Mahabubabad, Bhupalpally and Jangaon districts.

Since Warangal Rural and Urban are located in Hanamkonda, counting might be held in Urban district for five constituencies.
