The first flyover under the Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP) near L.B. Nagar was inaugurated by Municipal Administration Minister K.T. Rama Rao here on Friday.

The flyover on the left hand side near Kamineni Hospital junction was aimed to facilitate free flow of traffic coming from Srisailam and Vijayawada towards Secunderabad.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Rama Rao said the metro rail stretch between L.B. Nagar and Ameerpet would be inaugurated in September first week. Initially scheduled to be launched by July-end, the project was postponed to August 15 later and now it’s further delayed. Lack of permission from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety has resulted in delay in the launch of the stretch.

The Minister added that the metro rail would be spread to connect Shamshabad with Nagole via Falaknuma and L.B. Nagar. Besides, the MMTS would be extended up to Yadadri from Ghatkesar, he said.

The flyover, costing ₹49 crore, has a length of 940 metres, of which 380 metres is the viaduct portion. It has a width of 12 metres to house a three-lane road for traffic flow from Srisailam road towards Secunderabad.

The tentative deadline for the right hand side flyover is March 2019, and the total corridor at L.B. Nagar is expected to be completed by June next year.

The corridor includes Chintalkunta underpass, which has been completed and inaugurated in May this year, Kamineni left hand side and right hand side flyovers, L.B. Nagar left hand side and right hand side flyovers, Bairamalguda flyover and L.B. Nagar underpass.

Inaugurating development work proposed as part of ‘Mana Nagaram’ programme at a cost of ₹42 crore in the surrounding colonies, Mr. Rama Rao said a total of ₹448 crore was being spent on L.B. Nagar junction improvement alone.

Transport Minister Mahender Reddy, Legislator R. Krishnaiah, Mayor Bonthu Ram Mohan, and GHMC Commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy accompanied the Minister.
