Vice-President hails Antima Yatra scheme

Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu was all praise for the Municipal Corporation of Karimnagar for announcing launch of the novel programme to conduct last rites of the dead at a cost of only Re. 1under the Antima Yatra (last journey) scheme.

Hailing Karimnagar Mayor S. Ravinder Singh for launching the Antima Yatra scheme, the Vice-President tweeted on Tuesday: “Compliments for MCK Telangana for proposing to launch Antima Yatra (last journey) from June 15 onwards to conduct last rites of dead on a token payment of ₹ 1. Glad that meals will also be provided to 50 members of the bereaved family.” “My appreciation to Mayor of MCK S. Ravinder Singh for allocating ₹ 1.5 crore for the scheme. It is important to accord dignity to the dead and perform the last rites in accordance with traditions,” he added.

TRS working president K. Taraka Rama Rao also complimented the Karimnagar Mayor, MLA and the corporators for the humane initiative. He tweeted that it will be a great relief to the poor. He asked the Principal Secretary (municipal administration) Arvind Kumar to look at the possibility of implementing this scheme in other urban local bodies.
