The Telangana police have launched a mobile-based messenger application dedicated to provide real time information to over 60,000 police officers across the State.

‘Cop Connect’, the mobile-based application launched by the Director General of Police M. Mahender Reddy here on Monday, will also support the police department in improving quality of service delivered to public.

The app has been developed based on police’s internal communication strategy, which will enable the entire workforce to pro-actively engage and pass real time information in seconds.

“Sharing of information will able to play an active role in delivering uniform police service across the State,” Mr. Reddy said.

The internal messaging app, developed by the department on the lines of WhatsApp, does not suffer from limitations like restricted number of users in a particular group.

“Unlike WhatsApp groups which is restricted to only 256 participants, in Cop Connect, we can add any number of groups in a single group,” he said, adding that apart from the text, the app will enable to share images, audio, video files and documents.

One can also share their current location in the app, he said.

The app, which Mr. Reddy says is a communication revolution in the department, can be used both offline and online and one can transfer unlimited data.

Further, explaining the functional features of the app, he said that iMeeting is an intuitive option which will help in creating and scheduling department meeting and setting reminders.

The DGP said that the app is secure as a separate server for this purpose in the data centre of the IT wing of the department.

“Only mobile numbers issued by the department can be added in the group after three pronged verification process,” he said.

Mr. Reddy said that members of the group should strictly follow the code of conduct and should not send any forwarded messages in the group and use it for official communication only. The app is 100% confidential and the officers can share their best practices and achievements. He said that the department has also come up with a video conferencing technique in which they can interact with 1000 locations simultaneously.
