Chief Minister K.Chandrasekhar Rao on Tuesday said sanitation initiatives of shifting garbage in the capital “were not proper” and underscored the need for using auto trolleys, besides setting up dump yards 50 km beyond on all the four sides.
A team of GHMC officials and people’s representatives would be sent to study the waste disposal in Delhi and Nagpur, he announced at a meeting on ‘Swachh Hyderabad’ programme with elected representatives and officials.
Mr. Rao was also unhappy with the condition of the 390-km network of nalas or storm water drains and noted they were filled with sewerage and got encroached. Hence, permanent solutions were needed to address it.
Calling for a coordinated and sustained effort to improve civic conditions, he said three committees on GHMC, HMDA and HMWSSB would be formed and the responsibility was given to MPs K.Keshava Rao, Asaduddin Owaisi, Malla Reddy and BJP MLA Kishan Reddy.
Issues such as removal of high tension wires from residential areas and setting up three new sub-stations to solve the problem of low voltage in old city were also discussed, a release from the CMO said. On the drinking water supply, the city’s need stood at 602 MGD while only 385 MGD was being supplied, the CM said. Soon an additional of 45 MGD from Krishna and 72 MGD from Godavari project would be reaching the city but still that would not be adequate. The Hyderabad Metro Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) was directed to supply water to suburbs.
