Silt removal scam: 12 AEs held, released

Charged with presenting fabricated weigh bills

Published - May 05, 2017 11:22 pm IST - HYDERABAD

After contractors, it was the turn of 12 Assistant Engineers (AEs) of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to be arrested on Friday in the case of attempting to claim ₹1.10 crore presenting fabricated weigh bills relating to silt removal work.

They were, however, released on bail by evening.

Interrogated for hours

The 12 AEs, including three women, were summoned by the Hyderabad Central Crime Station (CCS) officials and interrogated for hours over their alleged role in helping contractors claim the bills.

A few days ago, the GHMC officials had approached the CCS alleging that bills presented by contractors, who were assigned work of removing silt from nalas, were fake.
