A housewife from Gandhinagar on Tuesday evening approached the Hyderabad ‘SHE’ team complaining that a person who claimed to be her distant relative was calling her over the phone and asking her to meet him.
The stranger apparently called up the woman several times over the phone in the last few days. He introduced himself as Venkat Reddy. “The victim enquired with about her family members if there was a person named Venkat Reddy in their relations. Later, she lodged a complaint with the Hyderabad SHE team,” a Central Crime Station official said.
According to sources, the stalker, Madhu, was caught by the police after the police tracked him down with the help of call record details. The man reportedly confessed that he harassed several women after obtaining their phone numbers from a website that offers online career counselling to students. It is believed that the man had collected mobile numbers of around 200 women in the last few weeks. Inquiries revealed that he was caught by the police twice on similar charges and was also remanded in one of the case.
