The airport has converted around 58 per cent of Airfield Ground Lighting to LED lamps.

The GMR Hyderabad International Airport has completed the conversion of 715 of its Taxiway Centre Line lights from conventional Halogen to LED IQ lamps.

With this, the airport has converted around 58% of Airfield Ground Lighting to LED lamps, which increases the overall LED lighting in the airport to 80%. The aim, however, is to make it 100% LED airport, a press note said on Saturday.

The technology used for the LED lamps allows seamless monitoring and control of each lamp using a remote.

The LED fitting offers Fail Open technology, which allows a constant current regulator to detect failure of a lamp real-time, hence ruling out the need for their constant individual monitoring, the note said.

The lamps are expected to save approximately one lakh units of energy annually, it added.
