A group of students owing allegiance to the Osmania University Joint Action Committee (OUJAC) made a surprise appearance at the camp office of the Chief Minister and tried to barge into it demanding that the vacancies in the government be filled immediately. They also sought immediate appointment of Vice-Chancellors in the State.
The security personnel thwarted their attempt to rush into the camp office and arrested them, and later shifted the 50-odd students to Shahinayat Gunj police station. They raised slogans against Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao even as the policemen forcibly moved them away from the camp office entrance.
Throw footwear
Some of them tried to throw shoes and footwear at the office.
Those arrested included OUJAC president Vijay Kumar apart from Manavata Roy, Kailash Netha, Ramesh Mudiraj and Charan Kaushik.
The agitating students accused the government of treating Osmania University students as ‘enemies’ and ignoring their demands to fill up job vacancies as promised during the Telangana agitation.
The students also said the universities are on the ‘verge of collapse’ and that they are facing difficulties with unreleased scholarship money.
Mr. Manavata Roy and Vijay Kumar said that it is ‘shameful’ that all the varsities are functioning without heads for the last one year and that the government is unmoved.
Moreover, it is trying to thrust politicians on the varsity administrating by planning to appoint Chancellors above the Vice-Chancellors for every university.
