For civilians opposing the closure of roads in Secunderabad Cantonment, the closure of roads other than the Gough Road, has been overlooked.

The group, Open Secunderabad Cantonment Roads (OSCAR), maintains that six roads that were closed around Bison Environmental Park are not roads belonging to the Army and are roads vested under the Cantonment Board.

In a reply given on February 17 to an RTI query, the Defence Estate Office states these roads are on a General Land Register (GLR) survey number 779. The group claims this land is listed as Class ‘C’ and not on A1 defence land as is claimed by the Army.

These roads are Cariappa Road, Barr Road, Surender Marg, Flagstaff Road and two other roads which in the vicinity.

After the citizen’s group took up the matter based on the Right To Information (RTI) reply with the Central Government, it was learnt that the DEO’s office had claimed there was an error in giving a reply with respect to four of the roads.

Two of these, one near Holy Trinity and the other leading away from Lakdawala Junction, are expected to be opened soon.
