Bountiful rain in the past few months may have been a blessing for farmers, but it has left many a road damaged at several places in the district.
The 35-km Nanded Akola road from Sangareddy that forms part of National Highway-161 is in a shambles and commuters growl and groan while travelling on the stretch.
The road from Shivampet in Pulkal mandal to beyond Andol- Jogipet, the constituency headquarters represented by journalist-turned MLA Ch. Kranthi Kiran, has been badly damaged. District Collector M. Hanumantha Rao recently experienced a travel nightmare when he had to visit Jogipet to participate in a cleanliness drive on October 2. And that’s what the road users experience every single day since the monsoon began.
“The road is about 35 km from Sangareddy. Heavy vehicles bound to Nanded and other places travel on this road. One has to be an excellent driver to commute on the stretch. At night, several people have minor accidents as they fail to gauge the depth of potholes on the road. We have no idea when the road would be repaired,” said N. Krishna, an auto-rickshaw driver.
“The stretch from Shivampet to Jogipet is riddled with potholes and it needs to be relaid immediately if major accidents have to be prevented,” Ganga Joginath, a resident and social activist told The Hindu .
It is learnt that the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) would soon call for tenders for the repair of all the roads. Once the tenders are finalised, the repair work would be taken up. But it would still take a few months for commuters to have a safe travel on the road.
